The Young Scholars Program-REACH (YSP-REACH), sponsored by the Center for Neurotechnology (CNT) at the University of Washington, is a five-day summer intensive designed to introduce high school students to the field of neural engineering. Note: The YSP-REACH program is currently on hiatus and will not be held in the summer of 2026.When active, the program brings a cohort of students to the UW Seattle campus to explore brain-computer interfaces (BCIs), neuroethics, and scientific communication.
For 2026, students interested in neurotechnology at UW are encouraged to explore the Neuroscience for Neurodiverse Learners (NNL) summer camp, which is recruiting for 2026. NNL offers a week of on-campus classes, lab tours, and college preparation specifically for students with neurodivergent characteristics (such as ADHD, autism, or dyslexia).
The NNL 2026 program is free of charge due to support from the Carl James Dunlap Memorial Fund. For students not eligible for NNL, other 2026 Seattle-based research opportunities include the Seattle Children's Research Training Program (RTP), which offers a four-week in-person biology lab experience from July 13 to August 7, 2026, with a $2,000 stipend provided to participants.
The Center for Neurotechnology is funded by the National Science Foundation’s Engineering Research Center (ERC) program, meaning ReACH participants train within a research consortium explicitly designed to bridge academic research and real-world neural engineering applications.
