University of Georgia VetCAMP (Veterinary Career Aptitude and Mentoring Program) is an intensive, week-long residential summer program for high school students exploring careers in veterinary medicine. Hosted by the College of Veterinary Medicine on the UGA Athens campus, VetCAMP immerses participants in real-world veterinary settings, including the UGA Veterinary Teaching Hospital, diagnostic laboratories, and the Poultry Diagnostic and Research Center.
Designed for U.S. residents in 10th–12th grade who are at least 16 years old by the start of the session, VetCAMP runs from May 31 to June 6, 2026. The program combines hands-on learning, observational opportunities, and mentorship from faculty and current veterinary students. Participants engage in clinical tours, animal handling demonstrations, and discussions regarding veterinary school admissions and career pathways.
VetCAMP is fully residential; students live in UGA dormitories, and the $1,000 program fee covers meals, lodging, instruction, lab materials, and scrubs. Admission is selective and based on an online application, an unofficial high school transcript, a teacher or counselor recommendation, and a three-minute YouTube video essay. All application materials for the 2026 session must be submitted by January 20, 2026. While the experience does not confer college credit, it serves as a formative introduction to clinical and research environments in animal healthcare.
VetCAMP at the University of Georgia was one of the first pre-veterinary summer camps established among U.S. veterinary schools, giving high school students long-standing access to clinical, diagnostic, and field-based veterinary experiences before college.
