The University of Oregon does not offer traditional summer session classes to high school students. However the university does run SAIL (Student Academy to Inspire Learning), a targeted college-access initiative for high-achieving Oregon students from underrepresented and low-income backgrounds. The program is not open enrollment; it selects rising 11th and 12th graders through a mission-aligned application process. For the 2026 cycle, SAIL offers both commuter and residential pathways, with students from outside the Eugene-Springfield area living in Unthank Hall for a full week of college immersion. While the program does not grant university credit, participants can earn 0.5 elective high school credits through a combination of summer attendance and follow-up mentoring in the fall. The curriculum features faculty-led tracks in fields such as Computer Science, Neuroscience, and Environmental Studies, emphasizing interactive learning and campus discovery. SAIL functions as a vital pipeline for long-term educational success, offering dedicated housing scholarships (worth up to $15,000) to participants who eventually enroll at the University of Oregon.
