The School of Creative & Performing Arts (SOCAPA) Summer Dance Camps & Intensives are project-based performing arts experiences for teens (ages 14–18) offered in New York City, Los Angeles, and Burlington, Vermont. These arts intensives focus on contemporary styles—including Contemporary, Hip-Hop, Fusion, and Dance Conservatory tracks—blending technical training with on-location choreography and professional video production. Programs range from one- to three-week sessions, with residential and commuter options available. Tuition for the three-week Dance Conservatory in NYC and LA is $3,495 (plus housing), while the Vermont sessions start at $2,895; rolling admissions typically filling up by early spring.
Training emphasizes creative choreography and performance for the camera. A hallmark of the SOCAPA experience is the creation of professional dance videos filmed in iconic urban settings (like the streets of Greenwich Village or Hollywood) or scenic landscapes (like the Adirondack overlook in Vermont). The Dance Conservatory track, designed for advanced to pre-professional dancers, is college-credit eligible and culminates in both group and solo pieces that are professionally filmed for auditions or digital portfolios.
Intermediate dancers can enroll in the Fusion Dance track (two or three weeks) to expand their stylistic range, while the Dance Bootcamp offers a one-week introduction to fundamentals. Daily schedules mix intensive studio training with creative workshops. Because SOCAPA is a multi-disciplinary arts provider, dance students live and work alongside peers in film, acting, and music programs, fostering a collaborative community. Final showcases and video premieres allow participants to share their visible artistic output with the broader SOCAPA collective.
SOCAPA’s dance intensives often film student choreography at on-location sites such as Central Park, Roosevelt Island, and other iconic urban landscapes, giving participants professionally shot video work they can share with admissions committees or performing arts programs.
