About

Seattle City Light offers paid 8-week summer internships for high school students at the municipal electric utility serving Seattle and surrounding communities. Internships run mid-June through August, with hours ranging from part-time to full-time depending on department. Interns work on administrative projects, assist with key utility initiatives, attend professional development workshops with other interns, meet with executive leaders, and take field visits to see utility operations firsthand. The program culminates in a presentation of what students learned to mentors and colleagues. Pay rate is not published on the primary site and should be confirmed when positions are posted.

Eligibility requires being a continuing high school student (enrolled before and after the internship), a minimum 2.0 GPA, age 16 or older, and US citizenship or legal work authorization. Preference is given to students living within the Seattle City Light service area, but all eligible students may apply. Positions are posted in early April each year on the City of Seattle jobs portal. For a Seattle-area student interested in energy, utilities, or public sector careers, this is a straightforward paid entry point into one of the largest publicly owned utilities in the United States.
