Lockheed Martin High School Internship Program refers to a set of industry-based summer internships offered by Lockheed Martin Corporation. These internships give high school students structured, on-the-job STEM experiences where they work with professional staff on technical challenges that vary significantly by regional location and business unit.
Depending on the site, interns may work in areas such as Aeronautics (Texas/Georgia), Space (California/Colorado), or Rotary and Mission Systems (Florida/New Jersey/Connecticut). Specific technical tasks range from software coding and cybersecurity to mechanical design and 3D modeling, depending on the facility's local mission. During the 8–10 week summer cycle, participants are paired with mentors and attend professional development workshops designed to provide exposure to industry-standard tools and workplace processes.
Eligibility requires being at least 16 years old, a U.S. Citizen (required for the vast majority of roles due to security protocols), and maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. Applications for the 2026 cycle follow a tiered timeline: many technical roles open in August or September 2025 and are filled on a rolling basis, while other regional cohorts may accept applications through November or December. Because these positions are in person and non-residential, students must live within a commutable distance of a participating Lockheed Martin facility.
Lockheed Martin’s high school internships are paid positions, with compensation and specific project assignments determined by the local site and division. Selection is competitive, prioritizing students with a demonstrated passion for STEM and the readiness to work in a professional defense and aerospace environment.
Lockheed Martin is one of the largest aerospace and defense firms in the United States, formed in 1995 through the merger of Lockheed Corporation and Martin Marietta; its work spans spacecraft, aircraft, missile systems, and advanced technology integration, and high school internships connect students directly to these operational engineering contexts.
