The Juilliard Summer Dance Intensive at The Juilliard School in New York City is an elite, audition-based conservatory training experience for dedicated high school dancers who demonstrate a strong technical foundation. Spanning three weeks in July 2026, the intensive offers daily classes in ballet technique, pointe, modern (including Graham and Limón), and contemporary repertory taught by Juilliard faculty and distinguished guest artists. Participants train in Juilliard’s studios on the Manhattan campus, working within the same artistic environment that supports the school's degree-granting programs.
Tuition for the 2026 session is $2,400, with room and board at the Meredith Willson Residence Hall costing an additional $2,100. Need-based scholarships are available and are determined following the admissions decision. Admission requires a highly competitive video-only audition—with no in-person auditions held for the 2026 summer term—and applications must be submitted by the December 15 deadline.
Daily instruction reflects a pre-professional conservatory rhythm, typically running from 9:00 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. A typical day includes ballet and pointe, followed by modern or contemporary partnering, and specialized workshops in West African dance, hip-hop, or improvisation. The program culminates in a performance showcase of choreographic projects, allowing the approximately 44 admitted students to demonstrate their artistry.
Juilliard’s pedagogical emphasis on precision and expressive range situates the intensive within the rigorous standards of a top performing arts conservatory. Because the program is embedded in Juilliard’s broader ecosystem, participants also engage in one-on-one discussions with faculty and current students about college dance programs and professional career paths. For serious dancers who have completed at least one year of high school, this intensive provides concentrated access to Juilliard-level technique and repertory insight.
Juilliard’s Summer Dance Intensive often features masterclasses led by internationally acclaimed guest artists — including company principals and choreographers — giving participants rare direct exposure to contemporary professional practice.
