The Dartmouth Precollege program is designed for high-school students eager to engage in a challenging summer academic experience at an Ivy League institution. The residential program is managed jointly by Summer Discovery and Dartmouth Precollege; participants live on campus in Hanover or join via commuter or online formats, choosing from immersive two-week, non-credit sessions across fields such as business, medicine, data science, engineering, creative writing, and leadership. Residential learners enjoy full access to Dartmouth’s student community and the scenic New Hampshire Upper Valley, while online and commuter options broaden access globally. A unique highlight is that certain Leadership Institute courses include a two-day outdoor leadership retreat at an Appalachian Mountain Club lodge or Moosilauke Ravine Lodge in the White Mountains. However, families should note that unlike most of its peer universities, Dartmouth Summer Session courses are not offered for-credit and participating students instead receive a certificate of completion. For families seeking structured academic exploration at a leading research university, Dartmouth Precollege offers a focused gateway to university-level study and campus life.
