About

Barnard College’s Pre-College Programs offer high school students structured academic experiences grounded in a liberal arts curriculum and the energy of New York City. Students apply to specific pathways, most notably the NextGen Leadership Institute and specialized tracks like STEMinist or the Plate + Planet Lab. While the majority of these three-week institutes are non-credit, the seven-week Pre-Baccalaureate Program allows rising juniors and seniors to earn three Barnard College credits alongside undergraduates. Notably, for the 2026 cycle, the credit-bearing track is a commuter-only experience and is restricted to domestic students, whereas the non-credit institutes offer full residential options on Barnard’s campus for both U.S. and international participants. Admission is selective, requiring a strong GPA and a statement of purpose. These programs are best suited for students seeking a rigorous women’s liberal arts environment and a "NYC as a classroom" experience.
