Science Olympiad, founded in 1984, is the nation's largest team STEM competition, with more than 7,000 teams across all 50 states competing in 23 events spanning biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, and engineering design. High school teams (Division C) of up to 15 students compete through a regional-to-state-to-national pipeline, with one team per state advancing to the National Tournament — held each May at a rotating university host — where 60 teams compete for the national title.
2026 Science Olympiad $50K Founders' Scholarships - To honor the founders of the national Science Olympiad organization, Dr. Gerard and Sharon Putz and Jack Cairns, Science Olympiad will award five outstanding high school seniors with $10,000 college scholarships. Past winner info on our Scholarships page > 2026 application opens February 16 and closes April 13. Open to any high school senior on a registered 2025-2026 season Science Olympiad Div. C team in the US. Winners announced in May
2026 Spirit Awards - The Science Olympiad Spirit Awards are among the highest honors given to teams and recognize students and coaches that have a positive attitude, exemplify teamwork, have respect for the rules and their fellow competitors, and exhibit sportsmanlike conduct. One (1) Division B team and one (1) Division C team attending the 2026 National Tournament each will be presented with $2,000 checks to be used toward furthering the school’s Science Olympiad program. Teams will be chosen by their work exhibiting the 3C’s of Science Olympiad during the academic year (Character and Citizenship in the Community) plus their on-site sportsmanship during the tournament. Winners announced live during the Awards Ceremony! Sponsored by the Science Olympiad USA Foundation with support from the Million Dollar Roundtable Foundation.
