The USACO (USA Computing Olympiad) is a highly competitive series of computer science contests for high school students interested in programming, algorithms, and data structures. It operates year-round with four official online contests—typically held in December, January, February, and March—followed by a final on-site contest for top performers. There are four progressive divisions: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Students begin in the Bronze division and must achieve a qualifying score to be promoted to the next level in subsequent contests. The final event, the USACO Camp, serves as the selection process for the four students who represent the United States at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI). The competition is entirely free to enter.
