The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is the nation's longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in grades 7–12. Since 1923, the Awards have identified and celebrated student artists and writers who demonstrate exceptional talent.
Submissions are first judged at the regional level by local affiliates. Gold Key-winning works at the regional level proceed to the national competition. National Gold Medal recipients are celebrated in New York City and have their work reviewed for inclusion in the National Exhibition and National Catalog. Key alumni include Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, and Stephen King. Categories include 28 fields of art and writing, such as drawing, painting, photography, short story, poetry, and dramatic script. The competition emphasizes recognizing original work that is technically skilled and demonstrates a personal voice or vision.
Portfolio Scholarships up to $12,500
The Flaunt It Award includes two $2,000 scholarships (one for art and one for writing) and a $500 cash award for the educator
