The Regeneron Science Talent Search (STS) is a prestigious individual research competition for high school seniors, recognized as the nation's oldest and most esteemed science competition. Entrants submit original scientific research and a comprehensive application for holistic review by Ph.D.-level scientists. The review evaluates the research report, scientific merit, student contribution, academic aptitude, and potential as a future scientific leader.
Each year, approximately 2,500 students apply. From these, 300 scholars are named, each receiving $2,000 (with an additional $2,000 for their school). Forty finalists are selected to compete in Washington, D.C., in March, sharing over $3.1 million in prizes, including the top award of $250,000. The application deadline for the 2026 competition was November 6, 2025, with the 2027 application opening on June 1, 2026.
