Delegates must be high school students aged 13 to 19. They register through the organizer’s portal as part of a school or independent delegation of up to 40, with one advisor for every 25 delegates. Committees range from General Assemblies and Economic and Social Councils to historical and contemporary crisis simulations. To be eligible for an award, a delegate must submit a position paper by the end of the first committee session, except in two committees, and must have substantially participated.
Registration is open to all delegations and independent delegates, so attendance reflects enrollment, not selection, and costs a per-delegate fee plus advisor and delegation fees. The credential is the award: chairs recognize delegates in each committee, one delegate per committee receives the Book Award for research, and schools can win delegation awards. The organizer publishes no count of awards or of participating schools.
A committee or Book Award shows a student can research a country’s position and argue it in committee against delegates from other schools.
NAIMUN gives out awards in each committee to recognize delegates who demonstrate strong diplomatic ability, including speaking skills, depth of research, and collaborative leadership.
