About

The Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) promotes and recognizes high school students' achievements in STEM research and experimentation. It is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense's research arms and administered by colleges and universities with oversight from the National Science Teaching Association (NSTA). Students can participate as oral or poster presenters. Oral presenters must submit an abstract (250-word maximum), a research paper, and a statement of outside assistance, while poster presenters only need the abstract and statement. Regional events, like the NY Upstate JSHS, award scholarships and invitations to the National JSHS. The National Competition is typically held in April, and top five oral presenters at some regional events receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the national level.
