The Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award is an international poetry competition for young writers aged 11 to 17, running annually from March 1st to July 31st. It is a free-to-enter competition and is highly regarded in the literary world. Submissions are restricted to poems of forty lines or shorter that have not been previously published or won other competitions.
The award recognizes 100 young poets each year. The 15 overall winners receive a week-long residential creative writing course run by The Arvon Foundation, along with a package of books. An additional 85 commended poets receive a gift pack of books and membership to The Poetry Society. All 100 winning poems are published in an annual anthology. This award is a significant opportunity to accelerate a young writer's career.
