CyberPatriot is a national and international team-based competition focusing on discovering and fixing cybersecurity vulnerabilities in virtual operating systems. The competition is structured in several rounds, starting with practice rounds, moving through qualification rounds, and culminating in the National Finals Competition. Teams compete by securing virtual networks and maintaining critical services while simultaneously fending off attacks. The competition separates teams into three divisions: the Open Division (for public/private high schools), the All Service Division (for JROTC, Civil Air Patrol, and Naval Sea Cadet Corps units), and a separate Middle School Division. This structure ensures fair competition based on experience and affiliation, offering a high-stakes, hands-on experience in computer science and network security.
National Finalist competitors in the Open and All Service Divisions receive scholarships. The total scholarship amount is $50,000, distributed among the top three teams. Students on the winning teams receive scholarships to the school of their choice.
