Students choose their own topic and data, then upload a photo or PDF of a poster measuring 18 to 24 inches high and 24 to 30 inches wide, with nothing identifying the team or school. Teams are capped at four students except in K-3.
Teachers and statisticians judge on the statistical question, the data, the fit of the visualizations, creativity, and design, and the rubric penalizes posters that lean on text instead of graphics. First, second, and third prizes are $300, $200, and $100, and first-place winners in grades 4 through 12 also receive graphing calculators.
Students in a region with its own contest, such as Minnesota or Ohio, enter there instead; everyone else submits directly to the ASA.
First Prize: $300 and an electronic certificate
Second Prize: $200 and an electronic certificate
Third Prize: $100 and an electronic certificate
Honorable Mention: An electronic certificate
First-place winners in grades 4–12 will receive Texas Instruments graphing calculators
