The American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) is the premier math competition series for students in grades K-12, serving as a critical stepping stone for students pursuing advanced competitive math. The high school competition consists of the AMC 10 (for grades 10 and below) and AMC 12 (for grades 12 and below). Both tests are 75 minutes long and contain 25 multiple-choice questions.
Scoring is standardized: 6 points for a correct answer, 1.5 points for a blank answer, and 0 points for an incorrect answer, with a maximum score of 150. High performance on the AMC 10 or AMC 12 can lead to qualification for the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME). Qualifying for the AIME is a significant achievement, often boosting college admissions profiles by demonstrating analytical thinking and mathematical passion. Calculators are not allowed.
