The American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME) is an individual, three-hour exam for high school students who have qualified based on their exceptional performance on the AMC 10 (top 2.5%) or AMC 12 (top 5%). This prestigious invitational competition features 15 challenging questions, all of which require an exact integer answer between 0 and 999; it is not multiple-choice. The competition acts as an intermediate step toward qualifying for the USAMO. The AIME is typically offered on two dates, AIME I and AIME II, in early February. For the 2025-2026 cycle, AIME I is scheduled for February 5, 2026, and AIME II for February 11, 2026. The registration fee is $135.
